The title “We are fine as usual today” was borrowed from the MSN Messenger’s status of a Taiwanese friend who lives in Tokyo as well.

Some Japanese companies require their employees to write a weekly or daily journal to record what they do at what time, and what they learn on that week/day, just like a pupil. Eddie and Tarcy have been busy in these days. As long as the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) causes any trouble, we are urgently looking for the news and related information to understand what’s happened and tell our families and friends that we’re fine, so that those who are overwhelmed by the media can feel somewhat relieved.

The latest trouble from TEPCO is: radiation was detected from milk of several farmers in Fukushima Prefecture, spinach of Ibaraki Prefecture, and tap water of 6 places including Tokyo.

XD / How come those naughty kids still enjoy playing ourside even the air is full of radiation!!)

What a scaring trouble! Eddie and Tarcy still want to have a long life, thus hurry to read lots of news, announcements and Japanese Yahoo! Answers, finally have a conclusion as explained by two parts:

The measure of detected radiation from milk and spinach is over statutory threshold: the threshold is determined as to be harmful to health if you continue to have the over-threshold-polluted food for one year. Therefore it doesn’t harm your body immediately even you have some. Of course we try hard to avoid this kind of food. There is nothing to do with milk but just be careful of the milk from the place (the supermarket’s fridge of milk is always empty though). As for the spinach, normally washing it can remove 90% of the radiation. Although the detected radiation cesium 137 and iodine 131 are easily absorbed by human body, they are also discharged from human body.

The measure of detected radiation from the tap water is lower than statutory threshold. In Japan, the statutory threshold for iodine is 300 becquerel, and the value measured from Tokyo’s tap water is 1.5 becquerel, which is far lower and isn’t harmful to health. According to the announcement of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, some evidences indicate that activated carbon filtration can effectively filter radiation. When the measure is close to the threshold, the authority will ask the waterworks to implement a activated carbon filtration, and when the measure is higher than the threshold the authority will supply potable water instead.

(Believe it or not, this is the above official statement. We decided to belive it to have an easier life!)

By the way, we took the water purifier used in Taiwan with us to Japan 3 year ago when we came to study, and never thought it will help us a bit today! The Amway eSpring water purifier equipped with multi-stage carbon-block filter and ultraviolet light sterilization (not an advertisement but we just happened to buy this one):

The filter was just changed less than one month ago, indicator is 100 (when it comes to 0 and you don’t change the filter, it will do filtering while beeping, chasing you to pay money):

It’s located around the sink, so usually it wears its “cloth” to avoid splashed by water:

Just like a robot protecting us!

Eddie feels it an Android:

What has been mentioned above was concluded by us. Nothing is perfectly correct but just for your reference. You should have the ability to find the information and conclude by yourself. We just like to take it easy, not worry too much.
